I’m Touched, Really, I Am

Filed under: What I Do When I'm Not Folding Laundry - Melissa @ 6:08 pm

I came home from church this Sunday to find that my husband had put up a post while I was out.  See, you hand your husband a "Get Out of Church Free" card, and he does something nice in return.  My first thought was that he managed to say what I wouldn’t dare, because if I say it, I’ll be the one who gets the angry phone calls from relatives.  Since it was Andrew that wrote it, I’ll just get angry phone calls about my husband.  My second thought was that my mother was here in town with me, and was not likely to read my blog until after she got back home.  I planned on deleting it this morning (she left yesterday evening) to avoid any contention.  Then I realized that the whole point of Andrew’s post was that my side of the family won’t read my blog (not all of them, but most) because they feel it’s too impersonal.  That means that none of them will ever be likely to read it and it they do, well, it’s the truth and I’ll deal with the backlash when and if it arrives.

Also, the comments from my friends were wonderful and made me feel like I don’t comment enough on my friends’ blogs.  Mid-year resolution!  I will comment more on other blogs!  Because I always think a good thought or have something to contribute when I read them, and I read them daily, but I am easily distracted and…GREAT GOOGILY MOOGILY!!  Could my neighbor’s kids be any more annoying?!?!  See, easily distracted.  But like I was saying, the comments made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who even simply thought nice things at me when they read it.  THANK YOU!!  And so, the post will remain undeleted.

In other happenings, I had a nice visit with my parents.  We did several nice things together.  Most of them I’ll save for other posts because I have adorable photos to go with them.  For today, I’ll talk about some exciting news.  Here’s a hint.

Before…

After…

Notice anything different?  Not yet?  Let’s try again.  Before…

After…

Did you see it this time?  Take your time…YES!  I got my hair cut.  Not just trimmed, but cut.  As in 14 inches of hair lopped off!  And yes, I did send it off to Locks of Love.  Or at least I will as soon as I remember to buy a padded envelope big enough to fit the whole thing in it.  Luckily, hair does not go bad.  I think the girl who cut my hair (Did I just refer to her as a girl?  Gah!  Maybe I am getting old!) thought I was going to cry when she cut it or something, because she kept asking me if I was okay as she tried to get her puny little scissors to cut through my super-thick, extremely lustrous hair.  (Conceited much?)  But honestly, my hair grows fast…I mean really fast.  I had only been growing my hair out for two years and three months.  I know this because I got my hair cut just before my brother’s wedding and it was only an inch or two longer than it is now.  I’ve had several trims since then, but I only got about an inch cut off each time; just enough to give me fresh healthy ends.  So while two years is a long time, it was not a lifetime of effort on my part.  It will grow back, probably more quickly than I would like.

I spent today taking my kids to this week’s free summer movie, going to Mc Donald’s, and getting the oil changed in our van.  I then came home and promptly took pictures of my wonderful new ‘do, only to realize upon uploading that I had not brushed my hair before taking pictures and it surely looks like I’ve been out all day.  One would think I might have noticed this little factoid as I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror for the half hour or so I spent taking the pictures, but then One would be wrong.  I wanted to take more pictures, but my camera’s batteries promptly died as soon as I finished getting the pictures on my computer.  So here I am in all my unkempt glory!  Revel in the windswept splendor!  I dare you!

I probably used up the batteries in my attempts to get a halfway decent photo to use.  Ansel Adams, I am not.  Most of the pictures looked like this…

Or this…

This one reminded me of Wordgirl’s profile picture…

…except I look less like Nancy Drew and more like Nancy Drew’s goofy, clueless cousin!  Get it?  Nancy Drew?  Clueless?  Hah!

So anyway, I basically spent my day dramatically tossing my newly styled tresses about only to come home and find out I looked as though I had been conducting experiments in a wind tunnel.  Maybe it was all the tress-tossing that made my hair look quite so disheveled in the first place, because it wasn’t a particularly windy day today.  Hmmmm…food for thought.

I meant to comment on your last one but had to read and run so I’ll tell you now. I love your blog and don’t let grouchies sway you. My family reads my blog instead of individual e-mails, and luckily they like it. I wish your’s did too, it would make it much nicer.
    Anyway, huggs!

  2. Good on you for the hair donation. My husband has very long hair and has already donated two thick braids to Locks of Love. His hair grows fast, too. Mine? Not so much.
