4 1/2 Weeks and Counting

Filed under: What I Do When I'm Not Folding Laundry - Melissa @ 11:47 am

Note:  This post has been updated below to show what tasks I’ve been able to accomplish so far.

The calendar has held many surprises for me as of late.  There was the sudden realization that my baby will be starting kindergarten in just a very short time, and now I’m realizing that this baby that I’ve been incubating all this time is almost ready to hatch.  Either time has begun to speed up, or this pregnancy has rattled my brains a bit!  All I know is that it has recently begun to occur to me that I have a lot of things that I need to get done, and they need to be done soon!

  1. I have to dig up and wash the cover of our baby car seat.
  2. I might as well wash the covers of the bigger kids booster seats while I’m at it.  They all need a bit of freshening up.
  3. Said car seat needs to be installed and the other booster seats in the car need to be rearranged.
  4. The bassinet and accompanying sheets need to be washed and put in position.
  5. I need to buy diapers, lots of diapers, because I sincerely doubt that the new baby will be able to share Aurora’s size 3 diapers! DONE!
  6. I have to pull out all the baby girl clothes and get them washed and freshened up.
  7. I need to rearrange the drawers in the dresser in Aurora’s room so that I can fit in all the newborn stuff, too.
  8. I have to wash all of the baby blankets.  There are a lot of baby blankets.
  9. I have to buy a "Coming Home From the Hospital" outfit for the little one.  Each of our other babies have had a special outfit that gets put into their keepsake box once they outgrow it and this baby needs one, too. DONE!
  10. I need to buy all my little travel-size toiletries for my hospital stay.  (Mental Note:  Breath spray, must buy breath spray!  Those IV antibiotics I always have to get do a real number on your breath and I’ve never had a nurse let me have mints while in labor.  I suppose they think its a choking hazard.)
  11. My hospital bag needs to be packed.
  12. The waterproof mattress pad needs to be put on my bed, for possible night time water breakage.  The husband really appreciates this precaution, believe me. DONE!
  13. And various other things
  14. that just haven’t occurred to me yet
  15. but I’m sure I’ll think of
  16. as soon as I publish this post!

Could it possibly be that I’ve begun the nesting phase?  So much to do and so little time!  And to top it all off, we’re going to be moving…again.  Andrew’s daily commute between Wilsonville and Salem has become tiresome.  An eighty mile round trip daily drive can be a bit wearing.  So we’ve decided to move down there.  Our lease from this apartment is up on September 25th, and Andrew is bound and determined to be out of here on that exact date.  So now that I’ve finally gotten most of our boxes unpacked, its time to start packing them back up.  At least with having just had a new baby, I won’t be expected to lift a single thing for the move!  *sigh*  I suddenly feel very, very tired.

  2. I waited longer to get things done with my second. Then realized that I was getting close to my due date or the possiblity of going into labor. So we started getting things done about 6 weeks before.

I am under the idea that with the more you have the later you get things ready.

Good Luck, getting it all done.

Sorry to hear you’ll have to endure another move so soon.

  3. Ahhh…nesting…I love that part of pregnancy. Send a little nesting juice my way…my carpets need steamed, my fridge needs scrubbed out, my walls need washed….
