The Food…Oh, the Foooood!

Filed under: Holidays - Melissa @ 4:07 pm

Thanksgiving dinner went off fairly smoothly.  I managed to turn the turkey’s innards into outards with minimal wretching and only a few deep breathing exercises, so I’m calling it a success.

Dinner ended up happening a bit later than planned, but that was not my fault.  It was that darn NBC’s fault for not broadcasting the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade over the internet!  I have never missed the parade.  Never.  I spent forever trying to find a way to watch it over the internet because we still don’t have a television.  Do you know how awkward it feels to listen to Christmas music when you haven’t been able to watch Santa in the parade?  I mean, how will he know I’ve been a good girl this year if I don’t shout it excitedly at the television set?  Anyway, I took a bit longer getting the cooking started than I should have.  *sigh*

But it’s all good, because the food was every bit as delicious as I knew it would be!

Behold!  The Feast!

Behold!  The Feast from another angle!  Ignore the jar of gravy and the can shaped cranberry sauce!

Here is our turkey before we removed its tin foil hat.  It either keeps the white meat from overcooking, or it keeps aliens from controlling the turkey’s brain wave patterns.

Just look at that golden brown, crispy perfection!

And this is my husband as he discovered that there was still another bag of giblets yet to be removed.  Did you know they make the bags oven safe now?

So that was our thanksgiving.  We had pumpkin pie and angel food cake for dessert and watched Flight of the Navigator.  It was a great day, except for the whole missing the parade thing.  I’m gonna feel really silly telling the mall Santa that I’ve been good now, but what are you gonna do?
